Fall 2019 – present

PhD in Electrical Engineering

Department of Defense Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation Scholarship

Educational/Professional Background

I received my B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from FSU’s Panama City (Florida) campus.

Research and Teaching Interests, or Professional Field

My research focuses on mobile robot navigation, to include developing simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) algorithms and path planning algorithms. SLAM algorithms allow a robot to map its surroundings to determine its location, while path planning algorithms find the shortest path for a robot to travel to its destination.

Future Plans/Aspirations

I am very honored to receive an invitation to join the FSU Fellows Society. I plan to conduct unmanned underwater vehicle navigation research that benefits both military and civilian applications to include marine archaeology, marine biology, and bathymetry.

Unique Awards/Achievements

My activities and awards, since beginning the PhD program, are listed as follows:

  • Department of Defense Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation Scholarship – Fall 2020 through Spring 2023
  • Published and presented a paper at the 33rd Florida Conference on Recent Advances in Robotics – May 2020
  • FAMU-FSU College of Engineering Dean’s Fellow – Fall 2019 through Summer 2020
  • Adelaide D. Wilson Graduate Fellowship – Fall 2019
  • FSU University Housing Seminole Scholar – Fall 2019
  • Completed PhD Preliminary Examination in one semester – Fall 2019

My other achievements include being on the Dean’s List and President’s List for my undergraduate studies.
