Experience as A Member of The Fellows Society

My involvement with the FSU Fellows Society was a crucial entry point into the labor I enact every day as a faculty member at Texas Tech University. My experiences organizing cross-disciplinary events and cultivating professional networks at the graduate level have allowed me to seamlessly step into the multifaceted demands of a tenure-track position. By virtue of connecting with so many graduate students across FSU, the Fellows Society also broadened my perspective on what a graduate career can/should entail, thus helping me to be a more mindful mentor to my graduate students today.

Unique Awards/Achievements

Prior to my current position, I served as Postdoctoral Fellow in American Art at the Norton Museum of Art, in West Palm Beach, Florida. I have been awarded several fellowships in support of my current book manuscript (now under contract with the University of Texas Press), including the Tyson Scholar of American Art Fellowship, at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, and the Harry Ransom Center Research Fellowship in the Humanities, at the University of Texas, Austin. In addition to teaching and publications, I have continued to curate exhibitions, including "Layered Voices: Process and Paper in Contemporary Native American Art" (2020, Landmark Gallery, Lubbock, Texas) and "The Kingdom of This World, Reimagined (2019, Little Haiti Cultural Center, Miami; and 2021, Pensacola Museum of Art, Florida). Recent awards in my scholarly work include, Faculty Research and Creative Activity Award (2021, Texas Tech University); Excellence in the Field Award (2020, Texas Association of Schools of Art); and Honorable Mention for Best Essay in Latin American Visual Culture Studies (2020; Latin American Studies Association).
